LG GD910 proves to be much more than just a novelty item January 27, 2010 3 Comments
When the new phone from LG was released, some people thought it was a bit of a joke. A watchphone? People thought it was something out of a futuristic movie or a sci-fi program. What people didn’t realize is that it actually does act as fully functioning mobile phone, with the added benefit of being a watch on your wrist. The LG watchphone’s main function is the revolutionary voice recognition software. This technology allows you to simply say a command into the phone, and then that command will be carried out. This is extremely useful for situations where you do not have time or cannot touch your phone, particularly useful whilst driving.
The LG GD910 phone also includes a very strong touch screen. Many of the touchscreen phones these days are very good products, but you hear so many people saying how they have smashed, cracked or damaged their screen through one way or another. The watch phone has a reinforced screen, and due to this will be able to handle the odd knock or too without it affecting the screen. The watch phone is available at selected times only, as each model is handmade. They do not just roll out of a factory onto shelves all the time, they come in batches. To check when the next batch is due do some research on the internet, or ask in your local Orange store. The phones retail at £500, or alternatively you can look to see what deals are available for the LG GD910 on contract.
LG Enters Android 2.0 Territory January 25, 2010 2 Comments
LG recently announced that it would be releasing the GT540. This is an entry level phone that will be priced accordingly. As of now, it will only be released in Europe. No word yet on if it will ever have a worldwide release. The handset is an attractive one and comes in several colors, including white, dark grey, pink and black. Included in the design are chrome accents and rounded edges. The GT540 will follow in the footsteps of the recent GS200 with some nice midrange features at a lower end price.
The LG GT540 will have a 3 megapixel camera that comes with face detection and tagging, 3G HSDPA connectivity, Wi-Fi, a resistive touchscreen display and Bluetooth. Users will be able to enjoy the phone’s 3.55 headphones as well as a microSD card slot that allows individuals to add additional memory if they find that they need it. LG has plenty of apps for their customers to download. One really nice app is the New Media Player that comes with DivX support. The social media manager is also nice and allows users to stay connected via popular social networking websites such as Facebook.
Overall, the GT540 looks like a nice, basic phone. It has most features that modern mobile owners expect, i.e., Bluetooth connectivity, Wi-Fi a 3.0 megapixel camera and the ability to download and utilize multiple applications.
This entry level handset is scheduled to be released in April of this year. This is only a few short months away. As of right now, the release will be limited with the phones only being sold in Europe. The price is expected to be affordable as this is an entry level phone. It definitely won’t break the bank. The exact price point has not been yet shared with the public. This may be because the phone isn’t slated to be released until April, which is about 3 months away. This information should be forthcoming pretty soon.
Because no comprehensive and official announcement has been made, some of the information, i.e., specs and features, may be subject to change. We will have to wait a little while yet to find out mroe about the phone and any GT540 deals that will come on offer upon its release.
Who’s Got At Least $150. The LG GS200 Could Be Yours! January 5, 2010 3 Comments
LG GS200 is a new phone, already available in Russia. It will be released in other parts of the world some time in 2010. It is currently being sold for $130 but there has been no word yet on the price points in other countries. The GS200 is a candybar phone and comes in red and black. It is a simple phone that doesn’t have a lot of features but a sufficient amount for the price.
Individuals interested in the phone should know that it comes with a FM radio with recording abilities. It has a music player, PC synchronization, a MicroSD card that allows for an additional 8GB of memory and a 1.3 megapixel camera. This qualifies it is a lower-end phone. However, it will still snap pictures and individuals interested in a camera phone that can at least do that and not so much concerned about the quality may be pleased enough. The 2 inch TFT, LCD screen has a 262 k colors. It also has video recording capabilities. The battery is a Lithium-Ion 1 100 mAh and gives users six hours of call time, fourteen hours of music playback and standby of up to 550 hours. The LG GS200 comes with Bluetooth and USB connectivity, both which are pretty standard in today’s multimedia phones.
The LG GS200 is a decent phone, especially for the price. It certainly does not have all of the perks of a more feature-rich mobile phone but neither does it have the price tag. It may be a good choice for someone who wants a simple phone that can do simple things, a person who doesn’t really know or care what a megapixel is. The GS200 should be available in other countries besides Russia soon for those interested in purchasing it. No word yet on how it will be priced in other parts of the world.
LG Cookie Accomplishes the 10 Million Sales Mark December 10, 2009 2 Comments
Recently LG proudly announced that since its launch in November 2008, their handset LG Cookie KP 500 has crossed the landmark figure of 10 million units in sales. Just five months back, the LG Cookie KP 500 had crossed the 5 million sales mark. LG Cookie KP 500 is not the first LG handset to enjoy the honor. Before the Cookie, LG Chocolate, LG KP 100, LG KG 270 and LG Shine have also crossed sales of more than 10 million units.
Dr. Skott Ahn, who is the President and CEO of the LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company expressed his satisfaction over the achievement of the landmark and attributed the success of the phone to the remarkable design and use interface features of the phone, which he observed corresponded to the demands of the users. He further added that LG would continue to produce models that address the expectations and demands of customers in order to offer a better product experience.
The LG Cookie KP 500 had really been a success across the globe, as per the manufacturers, as the phone had swept markets across the globe. It recorded over 5 million sales only in Europe, while it sold 2 million units each in Asia and South America, with a rate of one million units per month in the current year. LG is still hopeful of an increase in the performance of the handset during this holiday season.
But one of the most pivotal reasons behind the LG handset was its adaptability as per different regional markets. LG emphasized this by giving an example of how the phone had catered to the needs of the market in the Middle East by featuring the Koran recitals and a compass to indicate the direction of Mecca for prayers for the Moslem community. Similarly for the Czech market, they had included an ice-hockey game in the phone with a logo of Sparta Prague, a household name in the country.
With the expected rise in the demand of LG Cookie, LG is expected to announce its successor in the near future, just like they did for LG Chocolate.
Purely Touch Screen: LG GD510 November 25, 2009 2 Comments
The eco friendly budget touch screen phone GD510 Pop by LG is already available. The lack of buzz may make it seem like the device is just an average phone, but it certainly brings a lot to the table in terms of design innovation.
The most notable feature is, of course, the optional solar panel. Sure it’s optional, and getting it will cost a little extra. But LG has shown that this type of technology is not just possible on mobile devices, it is quite feasible too. The energy conversion rate is 10 minutes of direct sunlight for 2.15 minutes of talk time. It may seem a little low, but if you work near a window, leaving the phone exposed for an hour will net you 15 minutes of talk time.
More Than Novelty
The solar panel is not the key point in most LG GD510 Pop reviews since the panel is still optional for now. It would be nice to see the technology consistently implemented in many devices. Until then, LG knows that the Pop needs more than an alternative energy source to be successful, and the answer lies with the Pop’s inert concept.
This full-touch screen phone uses only one button (which differs in function depending on what you are currently doing with the device). The light changes from green to red according to current operations so the button can serve as either an “okay” button or a “cancel” button (in practice, press once to accept a call, press again to end the call –this can be a hassle if you accidentally tap the button twice).
Deals and Contracts
Orange Mobile UK offers the LG GD510 Pop on contract for free, the Dolphin 30 plan provides excellent value for your money. Similar offers that give the Pop for free are also available on T-Mobile, Vodafone and O2.
LG GM750; Another WinMo Phone November 20, 2009 No Comments
LG’s touch screen WinMo phone is named the GM750. This device is the official successor of the GM730 with a few improvements. The most notable difference is that the GM750 runs Windows Mobile 6.5 while the older GM730 only has 6.1. Still, LG GM730’s 6.1 OS is upgradeable to version 6.5.
This new WinMo phone marks the latest in the long series of devices that support the Windows Mobile 6.5 Professional operating system. Other manufacturers to produce phones using WinMo 6.5 include Acer, Dell and HTC. HTC’s HD2 stands out for using a Snapdragon 1 GHz processor.
Windows Mobile 6.5 features the new Windows Mobile Marketplace –which basically serves as Microsoft’s application store. Recently, the Marketplace got an update that allowed user to access it through desktop computers and also in the older 6.0 and 6.1 versions of WinMo. Microsoft also indicated that the Marketplace has had some new anti-piracy security features installed as well.
The LG WinMo Specs
The LG GM750 sports a touch screen, 3G capabilities and all the usual Windows Mobile features. The lack of a physical keyboard is a pain when using the Office for Mobile applications -the onscreen keyboard is not effective for typing long documents. The Windows Media Player 10 supports a wide variety of video and music formats allowing users to use the device as a portable media player.
One really nice feature about the GM750 is its 5 mega pixel camera. The cam is supported by flash and auto focus which makes taking good images easy even for novice photographers. The high resolution also helps a lot for users who like to print the photos they take.

LG BL20 Chocolate Details November 16, 2009 No Comments
The LG Chocolate series has a new incarnation in the form of the LG BL20 Chocolate. This new entry brings back the old aesthetic standards of the LG series. The BL20 is a slider phone that LG has designed in what can only be described as minimalist and silky smooth; looking at the product in question, you would have to agree. The al black finish can be considered simple, if not common for most mobile devices today, but it is hard to miss the subtle red lines on the touch sensitive pad that creates a visual accent for the BL20. An official listing of the device describes these as hidden navigation keys; a fancy way for saying that there are no buttons, but aesthetically impressive nonetheless.
Offered by O2
LG BL20 Chocolate contracts are being offered by O2; if you find the 269 Euro retail price a little too much, then a contract is your best bet. Either way, it will not be hard to shell out some cash for this mobile phone since it is not only impressive visually, but LG has put in some pretty good hardware for this device. This 3G phone is on the low to mid-tier in terms of specifications, but it is one of the sleekest among other smart phones, at 269 Euros, that is a pretty good tradeoff.
Specifications and Features
The Bl20’s screen is a small 2.4 inches, but considering that this is not a touch screen, the size is just right. Touch input goes to the “hidden navigation keys” right below the screen; that is LG’s way of marketing the touch sensitive control pad technology they are using –which are technically composed of hidden buttons. The whole device weighs in at 115 grams including the battery. Again, this is a 3G phone so expect the usual 3G features such as HSDPA, Bluetooth, and camera phone technology.
LG GD510 Pop – The Green Phone October 14, 2009 No Comments
LG has always stayed one step ahead when it comes to environment friendly innovations. With the announcement of its latest GD510 Pop touch screen phone, LG has reminded mobile phone manufacturers of the importance of solar energy, even if it is used as a secondary source of powering a mobile phone. The innovative and simple design of the GD510 is a perfect example set by LG to demonstrate that the usually wasted space of a battery cover can actually be used to hold solar panels. Even in LG GD520, using the solar panels to charge the phone is optional to the user, but it is surely a very good initiative towards adopting the environment friendly sources of power.
Apart from the solar panel feature, the LG GD510 Pop is an attractive touch screen design with a minimalist layout. The LG GD510 hates buttons just like the Apple iPhones, and uses just one to perform a number of functions. The function of the phone changes with the green and red background light as per the context of the interface. The compact 4 inch phone features a 3” touch resistive TFT screen with 256k colors display and a resolution of 240 x 400 pixels. The display is nothing special, but users may just find it alright for an affordable touch screen phone, that LG GD510 Pop is expected to be, as it also lacks support for Wi-Fi and 3G networks.
The phone features a 3.0 mega pixel camera, Bluetooth A2DP and an impressive 8 GB internal memory. The phone features web browsing based on WAP 2.0, HTML and X-HTML with support to GPRS, EDGE and GSM network modes. The phone features multimedia playback and supports a variety of file formats. The phone is expected to hit the markets in the month of October with the LG GD510 Pop on contract.
