Purely Touch Screen: LG GD510 November 25, 2009 2 Comments
The eco friendly budget touch screen phone GD510 Pop by LG is already available. The lack of buzz may make it seem like the device is just an average phone, but it certainly brings a lot to the table in terms of design innovation.
The most notable feature is, of course, the optional solar panel. Sure it’s optional, and getting it will cost a little extra. But LG has shown that this type of technology is not just possible on mobile devices, it is quite feasible too. The energy conversion rate is 10 minutes of direct sunlight for 2.15 minutes of talk time. It may seem a little low, but if you work near a window, leaving the phone exposed for an hour will net you 15 minutes of talk time.
More Than Novelty
The solar panel is not the key point in most LG GD510 Pop reviews since the panel is still optional for now. It would be nice to see the technology consistently implemented in many devices. Until then, LG knows that the Pop needs more than an alternative energy source to be successful, and the answer lies with the Pop’s inert concept.
This full-touch screen phone uses only one button (which differs in function depending on what you are currently doing with the device). The light changes from green to red according to current operations so the button can serve as either an “okay” button or a “cancel” button (in practice, press once to accept a call, press again to end the call –this can be a hassle if you accidentally tap the button twice).
Deals and Contracts
Orange Mobile UK offers the LG GD510 Pop on contract for free, the Dolphin 30 plan provides excellent value for your money. Similar offers that give the Pop for free are also available on T-Mobile, Vodafone and O2.
LG GM750; Another WinMo Phone November 20, 2009 No Comments
LG’s touch screen WinMo phone is named the GM750. This device is the official successor of the GM730 with a few improvements. The most notable difference is that the GM750 runs Windows Mobile 6.5 while the older GM730 only has 6.1. Still, LG GM730’s 6.1 OS is upgradeable to version 6.5.
This new WinMo phone marks the latest in the long series of devices that support the Windows Mobile 6.5 Professional operating system. Other manufacturers to produce phones using WinMo 6.5 include Acer, Dell and HTC. HTC’s HD2 stands out for using a Snapdragon 1 GHz processor.
Windows Mobile 6.5 features the new Windows Mobile Marketplace –which basically serves as Microsoft’s application store. Recently, the Marketplace got an update that allowed user to access it through desktop computers and also in the older 6.0 and 6.1 versions of WinMo. Microsoft also indicated that the Marketplace has had some new anti-piracy security features installed as well.
The LG WinMo Specs
The LG GM750 sports a touch screen, 3G capabilities and all the usual Windows Mobile features. The lack of a physical keyboard is a pain when using the Office for Mobile applications -the onscreen keyboard is not effective for typing long documents. The Windows Media Player 10 supports a wide variety of video and music formats allowing users to use the device as a portable media player.
One really nice feature about the GM750 is its 5 mega pixel camera. The cam is supported by flash and auto focus which makes taking good images easy even for novice photographers. The high resolution also helps a lot for users who like to print the photos they take.

LG BL20 Chocolate Details November 16, 2009 No Comments
The LG Chocolate series has a new incarnation in the form of the LG BL20 Chocolate. This new entry brings back the old aesthetic standards of the LG series. The BL20 is a slider phone that LG has designed in what can only be described as minimalist and silky smooth; looking at the product in question, you would have to agree. The al black finish can be considered simple, if not common for most mobile devices today, but it is hard to miss the subtle red lines on the touch sensitive pad that creates a visual accent for the BL20. An official listing of the device describes these as hidden navigation keys; a fancy way for saying that there are no buttons, but aesthetically impressive nonetheless.
Offered by O2
LG BL20 Chocolate contracts are being offered by O2; if you find the 269 Euro retail price a little too much, then a contract is your best bet. Either way, it will not be hard to shell out some cash for this mobile phone since it is not only impressive visually, but LG has put in some pretty good hardware for this device. This 3G phone is on the low to mid-tier in terms of specifications, but it is one of the sleekest among other smart phones, at 269 Euros, that is a pretty good tradeoff.
Specifications and Features
The Bl20’s screen is a small 2.4 inches, but considering that this is not a touch screen, the size is just right. Touch input goes to the “hidden navigation keys” right below the screen; that is LG’s way of marketing the touch sensitive control pad technology they are using –which are technically composed of hidden buttons. The whole device weighs in at 115 grams including the battery. Again, this is a 3G phone so expect the usual 3G features such as HSDPA, Bluetooth, and camera phone technology.
LG GD510 Pop – The Green Phone October 14, 2009 No Comments
LG has always stayed one step ahead when it comes to environment friendly innovations. With the announcement of its latest GD510 Pop touch screen phone, LG has reminded mobile phone manufacturers of the importance of solar energy, even if it is used as a secondary source of powering a mobile phone. The innovative and simple design of the GD510 is a perfect example set by LG to demonstrate that the usually wasted space of a battery cover can actually be used to hold solar panels. Even in LG GD520, using the solar panels to charge the phone is optional to the user, but it is surely a very good initiative towards adopting the environment friendly sources of power.
Apart from the solar panel feature, the LG GD510 Pop is an attractive touch screen design with a minimalist layout. The LG GD510 hates buttons just like the Apple iPhones, and uses just one to perform a number of functions. The function of the phone changes with the green and red background light as per the context of the interface. The compact 4 inch phone features a 3” touch resistive TFT screen with 256k colors display and a resolution of 240 x 400 pixels. The display is nothing special, but users may just find it alright for an affordable touch screen phone, that LG GD510 Pop is expected to be, as it also lacks support for Wi-Fi and 3G networks.
The phone features a 3.0 mega pixel camera, Bluetooth A2DP and an impressive 8 GB internal memory. The phone features web browsing based on WAP 2.0, HTML and X-HTML with support to GPRS, EDGE and GSM network modes. The phone features multimedia playback and supports a variety of file formats. The phone is expected to hit the markets in the month of October with the LG GD510 Pop on contract.

LG BL40 Chocolate. Webtastic August 25, 2009 No Comments
When we first saw the specs for the soon-to-be-released LG BL40 Chocolate, we thought: here we go, another phone pretending to be a TV/DVD player, yawn! But, inquisitive and patient as we are (sometimes, at least) we looked harder, and looked closer, and realised that the distinctive 4.0-inch widescreen high-def LCD 800 x 345 pixel resolution thing was all well and good, but its unconventional 21:9 (panoramic) aspect ratio was odd to say the least, because very little in terms of TV/film entertainment is actually available for home viewing in that format. Then we realised maybe the LG BL40 Chocolate was not just about films. Then we thought: maybe this is about mobile computing, about the internet. Then we realised we were right and smiled smugly at our smartness for a while.
Because while the enlarged screen will be alright – well, very good – for viewing movies, it’s going to be absolutely brilliant for browsing the internet. So good, in fact, that you probably won’t even need to scroll horizontally whilst doing your daily tour of the virtual world. And that, interested readers, is very impressive indeed.
There’s a whole lot more going on with this thing that we like too. So if you don’t mind the idea of something that looks like a prop from the latest Star Trek movie, check out this LG BL40 chocolate review, have a look at these LG BL40 deals, or just sit back and watch this slick little video.
LG GW300. Unpoetic August 11, 2009 No Comments
Sometimes, it seems like most of the content on the internet is generated either by idiots or machines, spewing out words using some kind of vomit cannon. And sometimes it seems like something has been written by not just an idiot, and not just a machine, but an absolutely idiotic machine. Take this little summary of the not-yet-released LG GW300, for example
“It is a feature phone that is focused on the thumb pressing, social network joining, Twitter viewing, young ones.”
And tell us you didn’t just die a little inside. Yes, we know, whoever’s written this’s English is probably better than our [insert random language here]. But come on, does it really take that much to get someone to give something the once over before you post it? The sad thing is most people will be happy to read the sentence, because it gives them the information they want. Yes, the LG GW300 is good for the thumbs because it has a QWERTY keyboard. Yes, it’s got a few social networking apps pre-installed so you can update your status very quickly using your happy thumbs. And, with its stripped down features (no GPS, bo 3G, no WiFi), the young ones will indeed be happy that it’s so darn cheap (according to GSM Arena as well as us). But where’s the poetry?! Where the metaphors?!
Oh well. Such is the curse of this big idiotic machine thing we call the internet. Have a little look at this LG GW300 review for some more stats and specs on this thing (although, again, no poetry).
