First of all, the X2 carries a 1GHz Tegra 2 dual-core processor, 512MB of RAM, 4-inch IPS-LCD screen (800 x 480) and 8-megapixel rear camera with a 1.3-megapixel front facing camera. As stated before, the Optimus 2X runs Android 2.3 Gingerbread.

On the other side of the spectrum we have the Galaxy S2 which sports a 1.2GHz Tegra 2 dual-core processor with 1GB of RAM. The rear camera is 8-megapixels and the front facing camera is rated at 1.3 megapixels. The phone runs Android 2.3 Gingerbread as well.

Spec wise both phones are similar and except for the slight speed bump in the processor and the doubling of the RAM on the GS2 front, things would appear pretty even. However, performance tests tell a different story. We’re not exactly sure what Samsung did or more importantly what LG did not do, but the Galaxy S2 totally trumps the Optimus 2X in performance. Not only is the screen of a better quality, it has better viewing angles and from our tests it consumes less battery juice then the Optimus 2X. Android 2.3 on the Galaxy S2 totally shines. The Optimus 2X however can be laggy at times and we are not big fans of LG’s UI overlay.

When it came down to choosing a winner, it was a no contest. While the Optimus 2X is a good phone, it is clear that Samsung has the superior product here and they might as well take home the prize for best smartphone of the year as well. If you’re sold on the S II, you can pick one up here.

Thanks to some crafty person however, we have gotten an early taste of what to expect from the 3D boasting tablet. The device, which is also known as the Optimus Pad will feature dual camera’s for its 3D video shooting as well as a Tegra 2 SOC chip that is built by NVIDIA and can more than handle the 1080p video output that this bad boy can do.

The device is 8.9 inches and will feature a 3D display with a resolution of 1280 x 768. Not to mention Android 3.0 which is specifically built for tablets and the likes? Thanks to 32GB of onboard storage, the tablet will be more then able to handle the loads of 3D content that is bound to fill up its memory and we’re sure that more than a few folks will admire the ability to expand that memory via a microSD slot.

The tablet is set to hit US retailers next month for an undisclosed price and we’re really hoping that said price is well below the $800 price tag Motorola is currently asking for the Xoom tablet. In other regions of the world, the tablet will go by the name of the Optimus Pad so remember that when visiting your local electronic stores here in the UK.

LG is set to detail more information about said device at Mobile World Congress which is scheduled to kick off next week Monday. As usual we will bring you the latest news from the conference when it happens.

Online retailer eXpansys says that LG Optimus 2X will start shipping to customers on Monday 21st February, without commenting on the reasons for the delay. The original date was January 24th. Android fans that have been expectantly waiting for the phone will now have to wait one more month before thy can get the phone in their hands.

Optimus 2X is an Android smartphone that will have a SIM free price of about £499. With the hype surrounding the phone only increasing as its launch date nears, it is likely that one or more of the UK networks will pick up this phone to bundle their services with.

What distinguishes Optimus 2X from just about any smartphone, and even from other Android smartphones, is the fact that it was the worlds first dual-core Android smartphone when it was previewed at the last week’s Consumer Electronics Show. LG has packed this phone with 2GHz of pure clock horsepower, and onboard Froyo. The phone features a 4-inch capacitive display, two cameras including a 8 MP rear facing camera and a 1.3 MP webcam, support for 1080 pixel video capture, 3g and WiFi conenctivity, and up to 32GB of storage using MicroSD.

Currently, the phone can be pre-ordered from eXpansys for £499.99. Network subsidized deals, with lower phone prices, are expected to come next month. To keep yourself updated on the phone, and its release, check the blog later!

Korean phone maker LG has already announced the LG Panther early this year. Just a week after the WP7 OS has been revealed at the Mobile World Congress at Barcelona, Spain, the company was already able to show off a mock design of their upcoming Panther smart phone. The device was not only exciting for being the first WP7 device to be leaked in an image, but it is also the first (and currently only) WP7 handset that would actually be using a slide out QWERTY keyboard.

As anyone heavy text messaging user would tell you, not even the best haptic technology can come close to emulating the feel and more importantly, the performance of having a real physical keyboard to type on. And if that lone was not enough to draw in a solid chunk of WP7’s target market, LG is now going for a double whammy with a second device.

Of course, this would be assuming that either the LG E900 or LG C900 is referring to the already known LG Panther. But if the Panther is a completely different device, then it is quite possible that LG will be coming out with three new WP7 devices all in all.

At this point, one for each chassis type sounds like a pretty good plan for the phone maker to take.

Microsoft has already given out the basic tech specs for every WP7 handset. This means that the 1GHz CPU and WVGA touch screens are no longer anything of a surprise. The same goes for the 5 mega pixel camera, GPS and Bluetooth.

Because while the enlarged screen will be alright – well, very good – for viewing movies, it’s going to be absolutely brilliant for browsing the internet. So good, in fact, that you probably won’t even need to scroll horizontally whilst doing your daily tour of the virtual world. And that, interested readers, is very impressive indeed.

And tell us you didn’t just die a little inside. Yes, we know, whoever’s written this’s English is probably better than our [insert random language here]. But come on, does it really take that much to get someone to give something the once over before you post it? The sad thing is most people will be happy to read the sentence, because it gives them the information they want. Yes, the LG GW300 is good for the thumbs because it has a QWERTY keyboard. Yes, it’s got a few social networking apps pre-installed so you can update your status very quickly using your happy thumbs. And, with its stripped down features (no GPS, bo 3G, no WiFi), the young ones will indeed be happy that it’s so darn cheap (according to GSM Arena as well as us). But where’s the poetry?! Where the metaphors?!

Oh well. Such is the curse of this big idiotic machine thing we call the internet. Have a little look at this LG GW300 review for some more stats and specs on this thing (although, again, no poetry).

Because you must all have experienced this annoyance too: someone is about to or is already doing something funny / amazing / fatal, so you scrabble for the phone, leap into camera-mode with the touch of a button, line-up the laughing / crying / dying subject and hit the shutter button. Then keep on hitting it. Then press even harder. Then press some more, and even more, until you can feel the bone of your finger grinding slightly against the phones feeble plastic body, and then, just after the crucial moment when the subject of your desperate attention falls over / falls over / dies, the picture takes. And you curse and you curse, even as the ambulance takes your friend away, because you’ve missed another picture.

Not so, so they claim, with the recently announced LG Louvre. And why is that, you ask? Because the LG Louvre GC990 features – along with its 12 megapixels, HD video recording and impressive little Schneider Kreuznach lens – something called… wait for it… Zero shutter Lag. Which, as the minority of you out there who can read past a primary school level will know, means that the shutter, when pressed, will have no lag time before taking the picture. Hurrah, we say. Sadly, the phone is barely out of its concept nappies. So there’s nothing more to say except have a gander at these current LG mobile phones, or at this LG Louvre review instead.

Which is all well and good. But, being ever so slightly more intelligent than, say, stones, or goldfish, we realised that there was something a little similar about this. So we dug deep into our archives, hired teams of private detectives, and finally came across the blog post we wrote a staggering week or so ago about the LG GT500, whose features include:

- GPS
- Push email via Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync
- Wi-Fi (TM)
- HSDPA 3.6
- 3G enabled
- Voice activation
- 5-megapixel camera

And even after hiring more detectives and even holding the two phones up against each other and squinting, we’re still stumped about what’s different about the LG GT505. There’s a cynical voice in us that says LG’s just given the GT505 a different name so it can offer it EXCLUSIVELY to Orange to peddle to their customers, whilst the LG GT500 has been promised EXCLUSIVELY to T-Mobile followers. Now, with the future very much here, the kids want something different. Not satisfied with updating their Facebook status every 4 minutes (I’m on a bus! Don’t know where I’m going!) and checking, sending, forwarding and bouncing emails left right and centre, the kids need more. And the LG GW520 is giving ‘em just want they want by being just about the first mid-range (i.e. pretty cheap, considering) phone to offer ‘push’ services. That means the GW520 can be set-up not only to allow you to check to see if you have new emails or relevant status updates, but to actually alert you whenever that happens. Sounds like a version of hell to us (especially if it’s set to do some kind of annoying beeping ping every time an email arrives) but we’ve no doubt there’s going to be a whole lot of probably younger than us folk out there who are going to find this – not to mention the large slide-out QWERTY keyboard on this thing – very useful indeed. So, the LG GT500 Puccini is no lightweight for sure. Well, except in the fact that as well as packing a decent punch in the specs department, it is also a pretty light, slim and kinda attractive little creature. At just 12mm thick and weighing in at a featherweight 86 grams, this is definitely going to be a pocket and palm-friendly addition to your life. So don’t expect to be knocked out by this thing, but we reck that if you get into the ring with it, you’ll be going a fair few rounds with a nifty little crowd pleaser.
